A taste of autumn…and Christmas!

Clovelly’s famous annual Herring Festival

With the colder, crisper weather and  the sounds, sights and smells of autumn making now making themselves well and truly felt, there’s a lovely sense of the imminent build up to Christmas.  And nowhere is this more apparent than in the events calendar for the coming months.

Just around the corner is the Clovelly Herring Festival (Nov 16), a wonderful celebration of the ‘Silver Darlings’ that have been such an important part of the history and prosperity of this world-class heritage village. There will be music, stalls, cooking and smoking demonstrations, local drink and the delicious quay side kitchen.

Then, all throughout November and December we have a feast of delights: RHS Rosemoor’s Christmas Food & Craft fairs, plus their Winter Exhibitions; Christmas magic for all ages at Wooly’s Winter Wonderland at the Big Sheep with rides, tobogganing, ice skating, snowboard simulation, Santa’s Grotto, and a sparkling Christmas light show with fairy lights twinkling in tandem to all your favourite Christmas tunes.  The unmissable Clovelly Christmas light switch-on (Dec 7), with its hog roast, punch, mince pies, brass band and famous lantern-lit procession down through the beautiful village kicks off the Christmas spirit in earnest and the weekly Christmas Farmers’ markets throughout December mean you can stock up on truly delicious, local festive fare and unique, authentically crafted gifts and decorations to make this coming yuletide a very special one indeed.
