Anchor Inn

The Anchor is a 16th Century coaching inn, comprising a pub, hotel and restaurant, situated close to the centre of Hartland and its amenities, and about two miles from the coast. With notice, lifts may be provided to and from the local section of the South West Coast Path. There is a car park for guests at the rear of the pub.

Both pub and hotel have recently undergone extensive renovation and The Anchor offers bed and breakfast in nine beautifully appointed rooms. There is also a self-contained luxury suite, The Crow’s Nest, with its own separate access. It features a fully equipped kitchen-diner, two double bedrooms (one of which can be configured as either two single beds or a super king-size double), and bathroom with bath and shower. Dogs are allowed in The Crow’s Nest making it
the ideal holiday destination for pet owners.

The bar and restaurant are open every day from 11am until late, providing bar snacks, lunch, dinner and Sunday Roasts in the dining room, or in the cosy bar with its wood-burning stove. The restaurant offers fine food in a comfortable, congenial atmosphere, with a wide choice of vegetarian and vegan options always available (gluten-free dishes provided on request). When the weather allows, food may be enjoyed outside on the south-facing sun terrace with its lovely rural views.

The Anchor is enjoying a growing reputation as a live music venue with musicians performing every Sunday evening, plus an open-mic session on the first Sunday of the month. Internationally renowned artists have appeared at The Anchor, including Canadian musicians ‘Maddie Storvold’ and ‘David Celia And The Zuffalo’. See ‘What’s On’ on The Anchor website for more information and details of upcoming gigs: www.anchorhartland.co.uk.

On the first Tuesday of each month (except for July and August) is The Anchor’s Famous Multi-Media Quiz; this is an extremely popular night and early booking is essential.

For those walking in the area, we offer a range of services: we can arrange pick ups / drop offs from nearby sections of the coast path, from Hartland Quay to Clovelly; we can supply packed lunches (vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options available), and if you’re soaked in a
downpour, we even offer a clothes-drying service.

Packed lunches and takeaway meals are available on request.

On offer in the bar is an extensive range of wines, spirits and lagers, in addition to local real ales and ciders; bar snacks may also be ordered during meal times. A fine upright piano, a boudoir grand piano and several guitars are available for anyone to play, plus a dartboard, a cupboard full of traditional board games, and one of the best pool tables in the North Devon Pool League; the pool table is free to use.

The Anchor is popular with TV and Film production companies, both as a location (BBC’s ‘The Night Manager’) and as a base for actors and crew (‘Malory Towers’ cast and production team being regular summer visitors).

In reviews, people frequently comment on the congenial atmosphere at the Anchor, the very friendly, helpful staff, the quality of the food, and the high standard of the accommodation.
