Springfield Pottery
| Philip and Frannie Leach Potters have been making slipware in North Devon for hundreds of years, so when we came to Hartland in 1979 and started up Springfield Pottery we were fortunate to have this rich and longstanding tradition to guide us in shaping our style. Since then other experiences and travels have influenced our work, prompting us to experiment with new glazes and forms. Philip worked in Iran for six years so a Persian influence is very evident. We've also been inspired by several trips to Japan. More recently we fell in love with Minoan pottery on a trip to Crete. So our range is wide and continues to develop all the time. We sell mainly from our showroom but exhibit as well and have sold in Japan over the past fifteen years. Recently (June 2012) we have been featured in the well respected 'Kateigaho' magazine along with 7 other British potteries. You can see a link to this feature here. We take orders for commemorative pieces, wedding lists and gifts which take about six weeks to produce. Philip enjoys getting involved with pottery projects in the area and occasionally does tuition during the winter months when it's quieter. Visitors are most welcome to the pottery, we are open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm, but as we are a small working pottery it is advisable to ring before making a special trip, just to make sure we are there. |
