| Downe is an idyllic collection of Downe Health Spa, a luxury full treatment spa and eight luxury cottages providing 5 star accommodation on a self-catering or part-catered basis. Downe is set in absolutely unspoilt countryside with stunning views of the coastline and Lundy Island beyond. Perfectly private and secluded and with no noise or light pollution, by day Downe is a luxurious, tranquil oasis and by night it rests beneath a completely unbroken starry sky. No wonder it has earned such incredible reviews and press reports. Downe Health Spa comprises a full octagonal spa with whirlpool jets, a steam room and a sauna - all top of the range commercial facilities run at optimal temperatures - and four treatment rooms offering a full range of therapies. There is also a well equipped gym. The air conditioned and dehumidified wet lounging area has unparalleled views across the lily pond to the coast. So too does the suntrap Edwardian Conservatory, where lunch is often served and the beautiful patio where cream teas can be enjoyed on sunny days. In all there are seven acres of beautiful grounds to enjoy. The Atlantic Room is the dry lounging area with sofas and tables, magazines and daily newspapers. The eight luxury cottages, sleeping from two to six each, are beautifully and sympathetically equipped: log burners or living flame stoves, spacious lounge and dining areas, fully equipped kitchens, exposed beams and reclaimed pine furniture. Guests stay on a self-catering basis however, Downe will also supply wonderful continental or English breakfast baskets and truly delicious three course meals, ready prepared on table-ready crockery that simply require re-heating or finishing and serving. In addition, Downe takes great care to update their own restaurant guide found within the cottages after re-sampling and re-reviewing the best restaurants in the local area. This outstanding combination of setting, facilities, treatments and accommodation makes Downe exceptionally well suited for drop-in treatments and spa use (please telephone ahead), pamper days, pamper breaks, celebration days, hen parties and of course wonderful holidays and breaks with or without spa facilities and treatments. Owners Jeremy and Lynda Roe aim to "create wonderful days and wonderful therapies for every one of our visitors" and a key theme is total relaxation and comfort. To this end it is possible to be completely car-free: a taxi will collect and return visitors from Tiverton Parkway railway station which is just over two hours from London. Pets are welcome at one of the cottages.
