It’s hard to believe that it’s already August – the calendar is really moving on. Lana Borrett updates us on the gardens and tea room at Docton Mill in this gorgeous summer month.

"The garden continues to be amazing for August – rain does have its benefits for the garden! We have a wonderful show of Dahlias this year, from tall white lily varieties to beautiful bright pinks and purples.

Potentillas are always a joy now, as are variegated myrtles covered with small white blooms. The Crocosmias are ablaze, vibrant orange, and many are doubles. Bright red Crocosmia ‘Lucifer’ is my favourite. The burnt orange daylilies around the mill pond are just perfect, next to a deep red Acer reflecting in the water.

Our tea room serves best quality crab in ciabatta rolls and salads with an abundance of salad leaves grown in our green house. The Ruby Red topside beef is extremely popular with hot horseradish sauce in salads and rolls.

Visit us for morning coffee, lunch or delicous afternoon tea, with a wide selection of cakes and of course Devon cream teas."

Entry to the tea room is free, for the gardens it’s £4.50 for adults, £4.25 for OAPs and U18s are free. Well behaved dogs welcome.  See www.doctonmill.co.uk or call  01237 441369.
