Cheristow Lavender is a unique family run business and attraction offering the lavender farm, gardens, award winning tea room, gardens, campsite and B&B. Set just 25 mins walk from the South West Coastpath, in the beautiful, rolling Hartland countryside and wholly within the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, we work in harmony with our natural environment, and use the countryside and our gardens as inspiration for our products.
Come and wander in the gardens. Facing the tea rooms is a mini-Provence, with rows and rows of lavender, an absolutely glorious, exotic sight in full bloom. Beyond the polytunnels is 'The Secret Garden' open mid June - mid September. These beautiful, informal gardens are lovingly maintained by volunteers who come to Cheristow to learn about sustainable living. It comprises a vegetable garden, rose garden, wildlife garden, coppice, wildlife ponds, wildflower meadow, orchard, geese and beehives. There is a £2.50 charge per adult to visit the Secret Garden.
Eat and drink in the exceptional tea rooms overlooking the lavender, which was given an Award of Excellence by the Tea Guild. For 2017 the menu has been reduced whilst Betty, who runs the tearoom, recovers from illness. On offer currently are delicious cream teas and homemade cakes, and a wonderful selection of savoury scones including cheese, steak and stilton and beef and onion. All our food is homemade, much of it with our own or very locally sourced ingredients. We rear our own Devon Ruby Red cattle to provide our own meat, have free range chickens, several beehives for our honey, and grow our own fruit and vegetables. We try very hard to cater for special diets - including vegan and dairy free, wheat free and gluten free - please enquire.
Stay on our campsite, with stunning views over the countryside to the sea. We have hardstandings, electric hookups, toilets showers, a washing machine and communal freezer. We price very reasonably per person and do not charge extra for awning etc or pets, though we ask you not to abuse this. We are an adult only site.
For 2017 we also offer bed and breakfast accommodation: a lovely triple, ground floor room with shared bathroom. We offer generous, organic breakfasts each day and evening meals by prior arrangement. Come and relax in these beautiful surroundings and reconnect with the simple pleasures of life.
The 100 acre farm is run in a traditional manner, using minimal inputs and encouraging wild life. The farm has been in the family for the past 60 years. Traditional farming methods are used to ensure a good quality of life and welfare of the animals. Wide field margins in the arable fields are maintained to encourage wildlife by providing them with an abundance of food in the hedgerows and verges.
We are open March - October on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 12 - 5pm. Closed on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays.
Free admission to the tearooms and lavender garden, £2.50 admission to the Secret Garden. Parking, dogs welcome.
